Who are the Voyager Trust?

The Voyager Trust is a new charity which is organising and managing the build of a new accessible catamaran. The catamaran will be 100% wheelchair-accessible enabling anyone to go sailing, whatever their situation.

How can I donate to the Voyager Trust?

You can donate to the Voyager Trust through the homepage of our website. If you would prefer though, you can contact us directly and we can manage donations through other means.

What percentage of my donation goes to the Voyager Trust?

If you donate to us, 100% of the donation will be passed through to support the build and operation of our catamaran. The build is being managed and organised by volunteers, so all donations feed straight through to the charity itself.

Can I volunteer instead of donating money?

Yes, we welcome volunteers. You can contact us directly to enquire about volunteer opportunities. You don’t need to be an experienced sailor to volunteer – we welcome volunteers with a wide range of skills. Do get in touch, it will be an exciting project to be a part of.

Who is building the Voyager Trust boat?

The Voyager Trust boat is being built by a company in Cornwall called Dazcat. They are part of the Multihull Centre, a specialist boatyard and boat builder with extensive experience of building accessible boats. They have in the past built wheelchair-accessible boats which have crossed the Atlantic and rounded Cape Horn.

I am very interested in sailing, what do I need to do?

That’s great that you are interested. The best bet for the time being is to email us or fill in our contact form and we will add you to the mailing list to let you know when sailing starts.

Who are the trustees of the Voyager Trust?

You can find out more details about us and the team organising the build of the Dazcat 1500 on the ‘Our Team‘ page on the website. All of the Trustees are highly experienced in the marine environment and have a wide rnage of skills from fundraising to boat-building and marine safety equipment.

Will the boat be accessible for those with complex disabilities?

Yes – the Voyager Trust Dazcat 1500 will be suitable for people with any disabilities. The boat will be 100% wheelchair-accessible with acces to all areas of the boat, including the deck. There will be ceiling hoists to enable hoisting into the berths, accessible wet rooms and changing tables. However, if you have any specific needs that you feel we need to take into account, please do contact us to let us know and help us with our planning.

What sort of sailing are the Voyager Trust planning to do?

The Dazcat 1500 will be rated for ocean sailing and so we are planning a range of trips. These will include day trips, weekend and long weekend trips and more extended residential trips, including trips over to the continent.

What sort of charity is the Voyager Trust?

The Voyager Trust is a Foundation Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This means that it is run by trustees. This is a modern form of charity which is an incorporated organisation. CIOs are registered with the Charities Commission and have to report to them annually.
